How to Check ITR Status#

Method 1: Income Tax Portal#

  1. Visit incometax.gov.in
  2. Go to 'My Account' > 'ITR Status'
  3. Enter PAN and acknowledgment number
  4. View status

Method 2: SMS#

Send SMS to 9289499499: ITRV PAN ACK_NO

Example: ITRV ABCDE1234F 123456789012345

Method 3: Call#

Call 1800-425-2229 (toll-free)

ITR Status Meanings#

Refund Status#

Check refund status after processing:

  1. Go to 'My Account' > 'Refund Status'
  2. View refund amount and date
  3. Check if failed (update bank details)

Refund Timeline#

  • Normal: 20-45 days
  • With verification: 60-90 days
  • Complex cases: Up to 6 months

Reasons for Refund Delay#

  • Not e-verified
  • Incorrect bank details
  • Pending verification
  • Return under scrutiny
  • High refund amount

What if Refund Failed?#

  1. Update correct bank details
  2. Submit re-issue request
  3. Wait 7 days for re-credit

How to Raise Grievance#

If refund delayed > 1 month:

  1. File grievance on portal
  2. Use 'e-Nivaran' option
